Over the past several years, a stream of traumatic events has altered the way we think about our impact as educators for equity and social justice. The National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) has delineated the primary events as 1) the killing of George Floyd, 2) the US student demographic shift to a majority of students of color, 3) the COVID pandemic, and 4) the political attack on CRT and DEI. In addition, we have seen an escalation of book burning, opposition to teaching accurate historical facts and perspectives, and increasing violence toward immigrants and other marginalized communities.
It is within this fiery, often combustible sociopolitical context that we teach. In our classrooms and on our campuses, we affirm diversity, nurture critical thinking, and engage in meaningful conversations about race and culture. Within our educational settings and institutions, we work to disrupt systemic inequities, advance social justice, and create a brighter tomorrow for all.
PA-NAME invites you to join us for our first full, in-person conference since the pandemic. This 24th PA-NAME Conference will again offer an important space to:
Share…our experiences and expertise with each other
Solve…injustices so together we can make a difference
Support…each other so we are energized to fight for compassion and justice for all people
PA-NAME seeks proposals that present current research related to the conference theme. We also welcome proposals that more broadly address the issues of equity and social justice in education. We encourage proposals that share evidence of practices, programs, and initiatives in K-12, higher education, and a range of educational settings.
